Hello bloggers, hope all of you are having a great day! Today we are going to be talking about other motor vehicles you can drive, only if you have a valid drivers license. These motor vehicles only require a drivers license and insurance in order to operate . For example, a motorcycle would not be in this list because it requires a motorcycle license to operate. Note that these regulations, laws, and rules only apply to the State of South Dakota and may vary anywhere else.
ATV’s (All Terrain Vehicle)
ATV’s are governed by the state motorcycle law but they do not require a motorcycles license to operate. The only thing required for a driver to operate the vehicle is a valid driver’s license, and an insured ATV. ATV’s are classified as a street legal vehicle in South Dakota, so you can take them on all roads except the interstate. Even though South Dakota is pretty flexible with their laws, if you get caught using a four wheeler without a valid drivers license, you could be ticketed of finned. This could also happen if you do not have the proper equipment on your ATV as well, such as: blinkers, headlights, taillights, horn, and etc. You can still drive a ATV if it does not have blinkers, you just have to remember your hand signals when driving.

SCOOTER/MOPED/MINI-BIKE
These vehicles only have two wheels and there are the closets thing it gets to being called a motorcycle, but they are not. These vehicles are classified as a subset of motorcycles and they are also governed by the state motorcycle law. The only main difference is the engine has to be less then 50cc or you are required to have a motorcycle license to operate. You are required to have the vehicle insured, correct working equipment, and follow the same laws as any other vehicle. If you are 14 and have your permit, you are allowed to drive this type of vehicle in South Dakota! Remember though, you can not drive past the 10 o’clock curfew if you are under the age of 16. It is recommended that you wear a helmet and do not have more then 1 person on the vehicle. If you get caught on a highway or a busy street, you more then likely well get talked to about it.

Boats & PWC (PERSONAL WATERCRAFT)
According to the National Association of State boating Law Administers, in South Dakota you do not need any sort of licences in order to drive a boat or PWC. They do recommend taking some sort of boating education which will benefit your insurance on the boat or PWC. NO ONE under the age of 18 can drive a boat or PWC, but they can ride along with a passenger that is 18 or older. If you are driving a PWC you are required to wear a life jacket and that goes for anyone else who is under the age of 18 in a boat. Usually if you have some boating experience and are not breaking the laws, there is no need for the harbor control to come get you.
